ANIMAL CLUB

Do you have a pet or wish you did? Do you enjoy hanging out with animals and would love to spend more time with them? Then come join Animal Love Club! We will be spending time with animals by volunteering at animal shelters, help fund-raise and gather donated supplies for local shelters, and work with shelters/charities for adoption events.  Earn your community service hours in a fun and soft pawed way! Do you have an interest in a career that works with animals? We can explore those possibilities. If you have other ideas on how we can have fun with animals bring them with you to a meeting, all are welcome!

ART

Art club is open studio time for students who are currently enrolled in an art class.  During club time, students can work on projects from their art classes or they can choose to use the time to work on personal projects in the medium of their choice.   Art Club is a relaxed atmosphere where students might work together, critique their work, play music, and make art.

CODING CLUB

Coding club is geared towards students who are interested in computer programming.  We will be utilizing a broad range of resources to have fun building small yet functional programs, games and puzzles.  Coders of all abilities are welcome!

EXCEPTIONAL CHILD CLUB

ECC Club is made up of students who care and want to learn more about students with disabilities. Our goal is to educate ourselves, school and community about students with disabilities. The CEC Club’s motto is: “Knowledge leads to understanding and understanding leads to acceptance”.

CHESS

This club is open to all students who have an interest in learning the tactics and strategies of the game of chess. Students may participate in competitive events.

CREATIVE COOKING

Provides an opportunity for students who enjoy cooking and like to try new creative recipes. Members not only develop their culinary talents, but also learn leadership and teamwork skills. This is an excellent club for a student who would like to pursue a career as a chef.

DREAM

DREAM stands for Developing Resourceful ways to Encourage Alliances and Mentorship amongst women of color.  DREAM is a student group bringing together young women who self-identify as African, Black or Caribbean from Niles North High School. It is the mission of DREAM to enlighten, inspire and support young women of color in every aspect of their lives.  We hold bi-weekly lunch-time meetings and one after school meeting per month.  We discuss a range of topics from academic to personal. DREAM helps our young ladies of color develop self-esteem, healthy relationships, effective communication skills, problem-solving skills, and mentorship skills. We educate our young women of color on the origins of race, societal perceptions of black women, microaggressions, and cultural appropriation.  We also discuss goal setting, study skills and college preparation amongst other life skills.

FILM CLUB

Film Club offers students the opportunity to watch, make, and star in their own films.  Students will learn about cinematography, editing, and other elements of film production.  By connecting with other filmmakers, writers, and performers, students will be able to make their stories come to life.

GAMING CLUB

Gaming Club is a place where students can come to relax and play collectible card games and other role playing sort of activities. The club hosts tournaments of various interactive video games for players of all levels, beginners through veterans to come and enjoy!

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Graphic Design club is open studio time for students who are currently enrolled in a design or photo class.  During club time, students can work on projects from their design and photo classes or they can choose to use the time to work on personal projects using the adobe suite and wacom tablets.   Graphic Design Club Club is a relaxed atmosphere where students might work together, critique their work, play music, and make art.

Our mission is to create a safe environment for all students regardless of sexual orientation, and to educate the school community as well as provide school-based support. HORTICULTURE CLUB (Green Thumbs)

If you like gardening, plants and flowers, service projects, or landscaping, Horticulture Club is for you! This is a club for students to get involved in opportunities of leadership, personal growth, and school and career success. Students will learn by exploring different topics within horticulture while making a positive impact in their community. The Green Thumbs has an Annual Community Plant Sale that is open to all people in the district and community as well as some activities including corsage sale for dances, Valentines Day flower sale, flower arrangements, working in the school greenhouse growing plants, field trips to local greenhouses and landscape companies, campus clean up, and many more activities!

HOSA (Future Health Professionals)

HOSA is a national student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA’s two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions. MODEL U.N.

The Model UN is sponsored by national colleges and universities whose very own Model UN students provide mock environments of the world’s United Nations. At their provided conventions, Niles North High School students have the opportunity to learn parliamentary style debating skills when acting as UN delegates from nations all over the world. In our real high school world, as many as 2,500 teen delegates from as far as Canada and California attend these conventions! Niles North’s Model UN invite those students to join who love to debate international issues, and would find several weekends of fun inspiring of learned debate skills, and well researched papers of politics. You can even act as an International reporter!

NN IN FOCUS

NN in Focus is a club based on expanding student knowledge on cameras, photography, and photoshop skills. OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CLUB

The Niles North Outdoor Adventure Club was established in 2018 to bring individuals interested in outdoor activities. Throughout the year the club will provide opportunities for groups and individuals to safely learn and explore the outdoors in a variety of activities. Activities may include hiking, biking, snowshoeing, camping, rock climbing, ropes course, fishing, as well as other activities members are interested to learn more about. Our activities will take place mostly during weekends and holidays. You can be a novice or an experienced adventurer, all are welcomed to participate!

Goals:

  • In the fall/winter, will hike 3 or more miles at a state, national, or community park.

  • In the winter, will participate in a winter activity such as snowshoeing, snowboarding, snow tubing, or skiing.

  • In the the spring, we will partner with Bike Club to go on a bike ride excursion.

PEP BAND

The Viking Pep Band is comprised of anyone who plays a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument.  They perform popular music for pep assemblies and basketball games.  They have been featured for other community events, like Northwestern’s Men’s Basketball, etc.

SOAR (Students Organized Against Racism)

The goal of SOAR is to create an inclusive and supportive environment open to all students who are interested in engaging in the school’s equity work.  SOAR will develop programs and educational opportunities in order to understand and educate on the system of oppression, institutional racism and effects of racism throughout society.  The sponsor will plan and host events during: Race and Identity Week, Black History Month, and Stand Against Racism.

STEP CLUB

Step Club is a club more focused in exploring the dance style called Stepping where you use your entire body as an instrument to create complex rhythms and sounds through spoken word, footsteps and hand claps. Originating from Africa and popularized by the National pan-Hellenic Council (African American Greek Lettered Fraternities and Sororities) the club offers any and all students to participate.

VIKING STRINGS

Do you like to create and perform music? If so, come check out our newest music ensemble the Viking Strings. This group is open to anyone in the school and will be dedicated to learning and performing indie, pop, rock, hip-hop and folk music. If you like to sing, rap, beatbox, play the guitar, ukulele, bass, or drums, this is the group for you! You will also have the opportunity to write and perform your own songs and lyrics.
