Parents

Parents are encouraged to participate in all aspects of the school community.

AFFINITY (African-Black-Caribbean) 

This is culture-based support provided for families who self-identify as African, Black or Caribbean. The AFFINITY sponsor connects school activities to parents, and the AFFINITY Family Liaison acts as a guide for facilitating conversation between the parent and teachers and other staff. 

Cafecito 

This is culture-based support provided for families who self-identify as Latinx or arrive from Mexico, South America or Central America. The Cafecito sponsor connects school activities to parents, and the Spanish Family Liaison supports Cafecito and acts as a guide for facilitating conversation (also interpreting and translation) between the parents and teachers and other staff. 

Chai Pe Charcha

This is culture-based support provided for families who self-identify as South Asian with families typically from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal. The Chai Pe Charcha / “Discussions over Tea” sponsor connects school activities to parents, and the Urdu (Gujarati / Hindi) Family Liaison acts as a guide for facilitating conversation (also interpreting and translation) between the parents and teachers and other staff. 

Family Liaisons 

Family Liaisons support any parent or guardian who could benefit from learning how to navigate our school system; additionally, they interpret and translate home languages into English to support non-English speaking families. 

Parent Advisory Council

We encourage parent attendance at the principal advisory groups, which are Niles North Parent Advisory Council (NNPAC) and Niles West Parent Council (NWPAC).

Suraye 

This is culture-based support provided for families who self-identify as Assyrian, and / or may originate from Iraq, Syria, Turkey or Iran. The Sorayeh / “Assyrian” sponsor connects school activities to parents, and the Assyrian / Arabic speaking Family Liaison acts as a guide for facilitating conversation (also interpreting and translation) between the parents and teachers and other staff and at Sorayeh meetings.
