During that time the team compiled its first winning record since 1998 and made its first Regional Conference Championship appearance in school history. Before that he coached basketball at Lane Tech College Prep.

Wasielewski earned a Master of Science in Education from Northwestern University; his thesis was about the link between participation in athletics and academic achievement for high school students.
