Niles Township High School District 219 Community Relations Executive Assistant Rosamin Bhanpuri was honored as the Lincolnwood Human Relations Commission Person of the Year at the Village of Lincolnwood Board of Trustees Meeting June 18. The Human Relations Commission honored Bhanpuri both for the work she has done in the Lincolnwood community as a representative of D219 as well as for her contributions to a number of volunteer efforts.
In presenting the award to Bhanpuri, Human Relations Commissioner Jennifer Costantino said, “Rosamin has a true love for Lincolnwood and the larger Niles Township community, as well as for the people who live here. She encourages people to get to know each other and to learn each other’s stories. She believes that everyone has something valuable to contribute to the community, and helps individuals identify and act on ways they can make Lincolnwood and Niles Township better places to live.”
Among her other contributions, Bhanpuri was recognized for coordinating the programs and activities for Coming Together since its inception in 2010. This township-wide program builds bridges of knowledge and understanding between people of different groups and ages. Each year Coming Together highlights a different topic, with an emphasis on literacy, cross-cultural awareness and community-building. Bhanpuri also serves on the Lincolnwood Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is an active member of Lincolnwood’s Multicultural Task Force.
Village President Barry Bass said he appreciates Bhanpuri’s “innate quality to greet people with a smile, and your positive energy, which makes people feel comfortable and makes them feel recognized and important. That quality is a tremendous asset for our community, and we appreciate everything you’ve done.”
