On Wednesday, November 14 @ 6:30 pm in the South Lobby, the Niles West Parent Advisory Council (NWPAC) will host a workshop entitled “Social-Emotional Development.” What is SEL? Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Specifically, the workshop will highlight ongoing Niles West school improvement efforts centered on SEL and Equity, including key competency areas such as Self-Awareness, Grit, Social Awareness, Growth Mindset, Emotional Regulation, and Self-Efficacy.
Utilizing recently obtained student survey data, workshop participants will actively engage in protocols with school personnel and learn how SEL and Equity is embedded in school improvement efforts toward creating a more caring, inclusive and trusting climate for learning.
The workshop will be led by Dr. Jason Ness, Principal, and Dr. Antwan Babakhani, Assistant Principal for Student Services.
