Niles West Names Braheny as New Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach

Niles West’s Kyle Braheny will step up to be the school’s Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach for the 2017-18 school year. Braheny has taught Mathematics at West since 2011 and has been coaching boys basketball there. The Niles Township High School District 219 Board of Education approved the appointment at its May 9 meeting..

Braheny came to Niles West in 2010 as a Response to Intervention (RtI) Tier 2 Academic Advocate. He has served as Boys Basketball Varsity Assistant Coach and as Boys Basketball Head Sophomore Coach.

Braheny earned a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from Aurora University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. While at Iowa, he served for four years as Student Manager for the men’s basketball team.

“I am excited to work with our talented coaching staff and student athletes to create a fun and competitive environment that will bring us success,” Braheny said.

Braheny will succeed Tony Konsewicz, who resigned as head coach this year.

“Coach Konsewicz has done a great job of building a solid girls basketball program” Braheny said. “I could not be more eager to step out on the court with these athletes, and I will give all that I have to make this team a success and our fans proud.
