Niles North High School DECA in Skokie, Illinois was recently awarded THRIVE LEVEL RECOGNITION for the CHAPTER CAMPAIGNS program, which was only awarded to four schools in the State of Illinois.  The chapter earned this honor by completing the requirements for BOTH the Chapter Promotional Campaign and the Chapter Community Service Campaign.  Their outreach to the school and the involvement in the local community is celebrated with the award.

In addition to this honor, the Niles North DECA chapter also was awarded  ACHIEVEMENT LEVEL RECOGNITION for the MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN, which was only earned by 10 chapters across the State of Illinois.  This means that the chapter increased at least 20 members this year.  Given that the chapter had less than 40 members during the pandemic, the increase in membership and excitement this year is extraordinary.

These awards are for the 2021-2022 school year.  The results were recently announced on decadirect.org and the chapter will receive their awards at the upcoming ILDECA Career Development Conference which will be held in Rosemont, Illinois in March 2022.

Each year, DECA recognizes leading chapters that have built strong local programs focused on serving an exceptional number of members, advisors, alumni and business partners. These chapters and individuals dedicate their year to academic and career preparation, community service projects, membership recruitment, school outreach activities and other DECA-related endeavors. The chapter’s advisor and student leaders have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to DECA.

DECA’s membership campaign is designed to help chapters grow by making the DECA experience available to more student members, keeping alumni involved and engaging professional members such as administrators, teachers, parents and business partners.

DECA’s promotional campaign provides chapter members an opportunity to share with their school and community what DECA is all about and how their chapter is making a positive impact on its members and community.

In DECA’s community service campaign, chapters held a community service activity, engaged at least 75% of its members, and created at least one form of publicity or promotion.

“We are so incredibly proud of our members and their commitment to DECA and our school community.  Their grit and work ethic have amazed us even during and after the recent remote learning environment.  Our members have thrived this past semester and have exceeded even their expectations.  A special thank you goes out to our DECA President, Hafsa Feroz, whose leadership brought these awards home to our chapter.”, said Jean Attig, NNDECA advisor and current NNHS Teacher of the Year..

Of the 3,000 DECA chapters, only 450 chapters earned recognition in DECA’s chapter campaigns and only 775 chapters earned recognition in DECA’s membership campaign.  In the State of Illinois, only 13 other chapters earned this recognition.

The DECA chapter advisors at Niles North High School are Jean Attig, Kara Mielke, and Nick Pahl.
