Skokie, Illinois – At tonight’s regularly scheduled board meeting, the Niles Township High School District 219 Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Dr. Roszena Haskins to serve in the district’s newly created Deputy Superintendent position. Dr. Haskins’s new role will have a heavy focus on recruitment, retention, and equity efforts for the district. Mr. Tom Moore, the district’s Superintendent, stated, “Choosing Dr. Haskins to serve as my Deputy Superintendent is going to be the single most important thing I do for District 219. She is the best educator I know.” Mr. Moore worked closely with Dr. Haskins at West Hartford Public Schools and is thrilled that she and her family will be relocating to the Chicagoland area.
Dr. Haskins has served as a school and district administrator for Connecticut’s West Hartford Public Schools (WHPS) for the past 16 years. Her experiences as a pre-K-12 educator in Connecticut and Virginia have shaped her vision for equity and excellence. Dr. Haskins has a dynamic professional background as a district-wide and building-level leader with municipal government and higher education experience. Prior to working in West Hartford as a high school assistant principal and as a middle school principal, she served as a special education teacher, special education coordinator, and supervisor for school nurses and psychologists. An HBCU alumna of Lincoln University, PA, and graduate of the University of Connecticut’s Educational Leadership Ed.D. program, Dr. Haskins has been recognized with numerous accolades. She believes in the power of student voice and works to mobilize diverse community stakeholders to advance equity in access, opportunity, and successful outcomes for all students in school, in careers, and in life. She loves the outdoors, community service, live theater, immersive cultural experiences, and hearing the stories of strangers. She especially enjoys traveling and playing board games with her husband Jeff and son Kendall.
“It is truly an honor for me to have been selected as Deputy Superintendent for Niles Township High School District 219. The district’s outstanding reputation that I have come to learn about, witness, and experience fills me with excitement about joining the great work being done and optimism about the future of D219.
