Niles North’s first-ever Oktoberfest will be held on Friday, October 20 at the school at 9800 North Lawler, Skokie. The traditional German festival will have delicious, authentic German food, music and dances, as well as games and activities. As is customary in Deutschland, the festival will feature bratwurst, schnitzel, fresh sauerkraut and pretzels. Oktoberfest’s tantalizing assortment of German delicacies is a collaborative effort between the Culinary classes (Commercial Foods) and the German classes. The Commercial Foods class will be working hard to prepare the German cuisine that will be served the night of Oktoberfest. Niles North chefs in the Culinary classes instructed the German classes on the finer points of sausage making – modifying the meat mixture, then cranking out, and casing 140 individual sausages in just 2 periods!
Don’t miss this enjoyable German feiern (celebration)! The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door. This is a high school event, appropriate for families; no alcohol will be served.
Bis Dann – See you then!
