Frequently Asked Questions - Athletics

Parent/Coach Communication Protocol and Guidelines

Question/Topic #1 - Absences, illness and field trips:
  • If your son/daughter is not in school due to illness, he/she may not participate after school whether it be a game, practice or meeting….  The students must attend a minimum of 4 classes in order to be eligible to participate after school that day.

  • If your son/daughter is not in class due to a field trip, he/she may participate since this is a school related activity.

  • If your son/daughter is out on pre-arranged absence (court, doctor…) he/she may participate after school as long as regular school attendance procedures are followed.

  • If your son/daughter is out of school due to a family vacation, he/she may not participate after school.

  • If your child is not in school because of illness on Friday and is well on Saturday, he/she may participate with a note to the coach giving permission.

Question/Topic #2 - Buses:

  • Athletic/Activity buses depart to take students home, Monday through Friday at 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.

Question/Topic #3 - Returning to school after contests:

  • Please understand that the coaching staff  may not make exceptions to the following procedures.  The coaches must be aware of your plans before they leave Niles West for any away game.

  • Because of legal restrictions ALL players are encouraged to return to school with the entire team after a game. This also in keeping with "team" concept.  However, we know there are times when parents are at games and wish to take their child directly home.  This is acceptable ONLY if parents call my office  (847-626-2800) before each relevant game and informs me that they are  assuming responsibility for the child, --not neighbors, friends, cousins…
