Students Clear Woods on National Public Lands Day

Recently, nine students from Niles West High School’s Honors Biology class and The NARWHALS Ecology Club spent National Public Lands Day improving the health of Blue Star Memorial Woods. They joined dozens of other volunteers from Loyola, Notre Dame, and the community cutting buckthorn, an invasive plant.

 

West Debate Has Two Teams in the Top 25

 

 

 

Niles West Debate is having a great start to the season. Already the team has earned two Tournament of Champions (TOC) bids, which, according to Head Coach Eric Oddo, is the earliest in the season the team has received bids. Teams must earn two TOC bids to participate in the prestigious Tournament of Champions national competition held in April.

Niles West Debate Reaches Semis at Wake Forest

Niles West Debate competed at the Wake Forest Early Bird tournament on September 6 through 8 at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. Niles West sent seven teams to compete in the Varsity division. Nicholas Charles and Rebecca Harbeck had a 5-1 record entering the elimination rounds and were the 10th seed. They lost in the Octafinals round. Soretti Donka and Faith Geraghty also had a record of 5-1 in the preliminaries. They were the ninth seed and advanced to the Double Octafinals round.

 

Niles West News Receives Gold Medalist Critique from CSPA

Niles West News (NWN) received a Gold Medalist critique, the highest honor, from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA). Niles West News received a score of 877 out of 1,000 points.
