Niles Township High School District 219
Philosophy of Youth Sports Participation Endorsed by District 219
Participation in youth sports provides boys and girls with opportunities to have fun, learn the
importance of physical activity and to begin developing sports specific skills. In addition, youth sports
programs are designed to positively contribute to the Niles Township community by introducing children
to healthy and safe recreation/competition. The teaching of basic game/sport skills and concepts,
along with positive reinforcement, teach children the joy of playing and introduce important values of
competition.
The primary objective of the youth sport programs throughout the Niles Township High School
District is to provide wholesome opportunities for children to have fun in a recreational/competitive
setting, develop fundamental skills associated with sports, learn important life lessons/values and
experience favorable habits and attitudes in social settings. To realize this goal, the District 219 athletic
departments support community youth sport participation and emphasize the importance of balancing
victory with defeat in order to develop and improve positive character traits among children.
Every effort will be made by the District 219 athletic programs to assist community youth sports
programs with facilities, equipment, current skill development and team play concepts and qualified
staff. District 219 athletic departments support the concept that community youth sports program
coaches, directors, and sponsors must be positive role models with knowledge of their activity, ethical
behavior, strong leadership, and interest in the holistic development of all participants. Children
participating in the community youth sports programs throughout Niles Township High School District
219 will learn life lessons that apply beyond the playing field.
