North's Top Chefs to Compete at State
Niles North advanced culinary students recently competed at the Family, Career and Consumer Leaders of America (FCCLA) STAR Culinary Competition Sectionals on Friday, February 3 at Kendall College. Matheu Hoegen, Karen Tong, and Bruno Kanam were three of nine students in the region to advance to the state competition. They were challenged to prepare and plate a three-course menu in one hour. There are three predetermined menus that the students practice, and they do not find out until the day of competition what they will be preparing.
For the Sectional competition, the students prepared: Menu 3 – Indian (Vegetarian: Potato and Pea Samosa with Red Curry Sauce and Cucumber Salad, Vegetarian Korma with Steamed Rice, Cilantro Oil and Grilled Naan, and Ricotta Pancakes in Cardamom Syrup with Pomegranate and Orange Salad.
The state competition will be held on Friday, March 31 at Kendall College in Chicago.
