D219 Teams Successful at DECA State Conference
This year was the largest competitive conference in Illinois DECA history, with more than 1,400 students competing at the Illinois Career Development Conference (IL-CDC) held March 9 through 11 in Rosemont, IL. DECA attracts individuals to productive careers in marketing, management, hospitality, finance, business administration, and sales and merchandising.
This year’s national campaign of DECA was “Own Your Future” and that is exactly what D219 DECA students did at this year’s conference.
The Niles West DECA Chapter earned more Chapter awards than any other Illinois DECA Chapter: Niles West was the only chapter in the state to receive Achievement Level for the Community Service Campaign. For the Membership Campaign, Niles West received Thrive Level (the only chapter in the state); Niles West received Superstar Chapter (only 33 in the state) and iConnect Gold status (highest distinction – only four in the state).
Highlights of this year’s accomplishments by the Niles West DECA Chapter:
Eighteen Niles West students qualified for the International Career and Development Conference (ICDC) which will be held April 26 through 30 in Anaheim, CA.
Eighteen written projects and/or interactive role play events (20 students) earned Top 10 honors and 37 students earned Excellence/Competency.
Four students were recognized nationally as Emerging Leaders: Deven Damji, Jason Morgan, Janki Patel and Joshua Sirbu.
Two students were recognized for their effort with IL DECA iConnect: Arijana Dibra and Sadiyah Raufi.
This year’s chapter officers are Jason Morgan, President; and Deven Damji, Arijana Dibra, Mohammed Ali Khan, Sadiyah Raufi and Joshua Sirbu, Vice Presidents.

The Niles North DECA Chapter also competed at IL-CDC. The team of Jeff Olickal, Jay Patel and Simeon Trendafilov received Third place, Financial Literacy Promotion Project. The team has advanced to ICDC in Anaheim.
Niles North had 15 Top Ten Finalists.
