D219 Student Technology Leaders Present at SIT Conference

District 219 Technology Leaders participated in the annual Students Involved with Technology (SIT) Conference held at Aptakisic Junior High School in Buffalo Grove, IL on Saturday, February 22.

Hundreds of students from across the state attend  the annual conference to demonstrate a variety of skills such as photo and video editing, geocaching, digital art, robotics, programming, remote sensing, wind energy, multimedia design, mobile apps, and more. Students attending the conference ranged from third grade to twelfth grade.

D219 Tech Leaders presented a workshop on “Coding and Game Creation” to a room packed with fellow coding enthusiasts. They taught the basics of Game Maker Studio to create video games and demonstrated game coding using Code Academy. Participants shared their recommendations for resources and project ideas. The conference was an excellent opportunity for D219 Tech Leaders to network with other students from the region. D219 Tech Leaders were Aziz Aziz,  Ashour Aziz, Sohail Amin and Alec Hinh.

The Tech Leader program in District 219 offers students an opportunity to be an integral part of the District’s Anywhere, Anytime Learning (AAL) initiative by providing technical support and training to their peers. Students learn valuable life skills while exploring new areas of web-based applications and open-source software.

To qualify as a Tech Leader, students must be proficient in computer technology, support and training, be patient and respectful, have strong problem-solving and leadership skills, be recommended by a teacher, maintain a strong GPA, and commit to work a maximum of 10 hours a week.
