As we look to meet the board goal of improving the academic achievement of every student through the development of a STEM research center, D219 wants to provide opportunities for our students to design and carry out sophisticated research, communicate with colleagues throughout the world, and have a competitive advantage as they seek college enrollment and entry into institutions of higher learning and the workforce.

Engineering

In the Applied Science and Technology Department, the Engineering program is designed to prepare Students for post-secondary Engineering and Engineering technology programs. The District 219 Engineering Coursework utilizes the nationally recognized pre-engineering curriculum Project Lead the Way (PLTW) which offers imaginative and innovative learning and career exploration. The D219 engineering program provides rigorous and innovative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education with a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and real-world problem solving. The engineering program centers on hands-on, real-world projects that help students understand how the information and skills they are learning in the classroom could be applied in everyday life.

By providing state-of-the-art STEM research centers for our students, District 219 students will be prepared for higher education and continued study in STEM education. Our students will be more likely to pursue a career as scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and researchers into the workforce in our community and beyond.
